The Uintas

Before
After (he did not like the cold water at all)
So we went camping in the Uintas over Pioneer Day with Matt's brother, Dave, and his family, Traci, Irie, Emori, and Jaxon. We stayed in the Cobblerest campground which is just past Soapstone. It was fabulous. We had great weather the entire time. On Pioneer Day, Matt's mom and dad and brother, Scott, came and spent the day with us. That afternoon his sister, Carol and husband, John, and baby Mark joined us. The campground was great because all of the campsites are like 50 feet from each other so you don't feel like you're in each other's business. We borrowed my aunt and uncle's pop-up trailer which was great.
Matt and Will preparing to go for a boat ride at Trial Lake. We borrowed Rob (Matt's other brother) and Kathy's rubber raft which the kids (and Matt) had a blast with.
Lauren and Jaxon playing at our camp's picnic table. They're good buddies. We did all of the cooking and hanging out at Dave and Traci's campsite.
(Matt got better pictures with his camera.) On Saturday, we came back to our camp after a long day of fun and I saw this big male moose running in between our camps. We hurried and jumped out of the truck to take pictures (while keeping our distance). I didn't need to rush though because the moose decided that he liked the grass about 20 feet from our camp and stayed there for a couple more hours until it got dark. It was cool at first, but then it got scary because I didn't want to walk into my camp in the dark knowing there was a big moose nearby. It kept eating and then it would lay down in the grass for awhile and then stand up and eat some more. It was right by the bathrooms too so we went around and warned the nearby campers because they had no clue that there was a moose so close. Eventually it left but it sneaked off because we didn't see it leave. We were over at Dave's camp.
While fishing at Mirror Lake, Scott cast his pole and the top half of it flew out into the water. Luckily he was able to reel it in okay. It was pretty funny so I made him pose for a picture.
Dave was not so successful in the rubber raft. It was losing air so he was sitting really low in it and his butt was getting all wet. It made it really difficult to paddle too so he wasn't so happy and wouldn't set foot in it the rest of the trip.
Beautiful scenery!! (Matt and the mountains) Matt fishing at Mirror Lake with Dave struggling in the raft in the background.
Matt felt really dirty and sticky so he decided to take a dunk in the Provo River which ran right behind our camp. The water was freezing but he felt refreshed.
Lauren spent a lot of time in Dave and Traci's trailer drawing 'princess dresses'.
The first night we all ended up sleeping in the same bed which wasn't too comfortable so the next two nights Matt and I split up and each took a kid. They boys and the girls. It worked out much better that way and the kids stayed a lot warmer.
Lauren took this picture. One of the few of me because I was usually the one with the camera. Oh and did you notice that I'm not wearing my glasses. My new eye doctor said that I could try contacts again and so far so good. I'm so excited. If you didn't know, I haven't worn contacts for 3 years because I kept getting infections in my eyes from who knows what and my then eye doctor told me that I was allergic to contacts and to never wear them again. I'm glad that I finally got a second opinion.
Traci having an intense discussion about rocks with Jaxon and Lauren. The kids loved playing in the river. I think that Irie and Emori spent most of their time at camp in the river. They would find flat sticks and put a little rock guy on them and float them down the river and see how long the guy would last. Then they would chase after it.
Lauren collecting rocks. She was getting so many rocks that she wanted to bring home that I had to tell her that she should only collect rocks that had two colors on them. She ended up leaving her stash on a log that had fallen across the river.
Matt, Will, Jaxon, and Lauren going for the maiden voyage in the rubber raft at Mirror Lake. When the were in the middle of the lake I could hear a child crying and I thought, "That sounds an awful lot like William." And it was. Too bad they were in the middle. But Matt just unzipped his life jacket a little bit and that fixed the problem. The rest of the time he just laid back and relaxed. Our trip was awesome and we had so much fun. Thanks Dave and Traci for coming with us!
